On 22 July 2026, the National Institute of Research and Innovation (NIRI) organised an online webinar introducing researchers in Latvia to the opportunities offered by the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO).
NIRI serves as the Latvian National Contact Point for EMBL, supporting the exchange of information and cooperation between EMBL and the Latvian scientific community.
During the webinar, representatives of EMBL and EMBO presented a wide range of opportunities for researchers at different career stages. These included fellowships, scientific exchange grants, PhD and postdoctoral programmes, training courses, conferences, workshops and scientific visits.
Participants also learned about EMBL’s Core Facilities and scientific services, which provide access to advanced expertise and technologies in areas such as genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, microscopy, structural biology, bioinformatics and microbial research.
The webinar highlighted how Latvia’s EMBL membership can support researchers in developing new skills, accessing advanced research infrastructure and establishing international scientific collaborations.
We thank all speakers and participants who joined the webinar.
The webinar recording is available on the NIRI YouTube channel.

NIRI is implementing Project No. 1.1.1.5/3/24/I/006, “Development of Latvia’s Research Potential by Strengthening the Integration of the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre into European Research Infrastructures and Scientific Networks,” on the basis of the “Action Plan of the Latvian National Contact Point for the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL),” approved by the Ministry of Education and Science on 16 December 2024.
