Cellbox Labs

About the Company
Cellbox Labs is advancing the automation of organ-on-a-chip technologies, reducing costs, time requirements, and manual labor while enabling more accurate and efficient drug development.
Technology
Cellbox Labs has developed a microengineered environment featuring a vascularized organ-on-a-chip platform that integrates hardware and software for flexible experimental design and control.
Applications
- In vitro pharmacology (PK/PD studies, toxicity assessment, gene expression analysis, and functional assays)
- Host–microbiome interaction studies (metagenomics, metabolomics, and validation of prebiotics and probiotics)
- Transport and integrity studies of biological barriers
- Disease modelling (biomarker discovery, inflammation, angiogenesis, hypoxia, and microgravity research)
Founding
Cellbox Labs was founded in 2019 by A. Ābols (cancer researcher), R. Rimšs (microfluidics specialist), and G. Mozoļevskis (physicist). The startup emerged from an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre and the Institute of Solid State Physics.
