Did you know that our gut and brain are closely connected? Scientists worldwide are increasingly discovering the massive role the gut microbiome plays in our overall well-being, sleep quality, and even stress management. However, regular probiotics don’t always deliver the expected results.
The National Institute of Research and Innovation, in collaboration with the University of Latvia, continues work on an ambitious BioPhoT platform project called “SynGABA”.
What is SynGABA? It is a scientifically proven, innovative synbiotic (a combination of probiotics and prebiotics) designed with a specific goal—to help our own microbiome naturally produce more GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) and L-glutamine.
Why is this important?
- GABA is a key signaling molecule that helps the nervous system calm down, promotes relaxation, and improves sleep quality.
- L-glutamine is an amino acid that provides energy to cells and literally supports the health of our gut wall and immune system.
🔬 Who is this product for? Scientists led by Dr. biol. Ilze Elbere are working on a product prototype to help the body recover after:
- Antibiotic use;
- Intense physical exertion and sports training;
- Prolonged stress and burnout.
As part of the project, not only the product itself will be developed, but also a clear roadmap for its commercialization, ensuring this solution hits the market as quickly as possible as a dietary supplement or a sports recovery aid.
We are proud of the achievements of Latvian scientists and are following the project’s progress closely!
