The National Institute of Research and Innovation (NIRI), in accordance with Cabinet Regulation No. 445 of 14 July 2020, “Procedure for the Publication of Information by Institutions on the Internet” (hereinafter referred to as Regulation No. 445), is committed to making its website accessible.

The assessment was carried out using the simplified accessibility evaluation method. The methodology applied was based on the guidelines developed by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of Latvia (VARAM): Guidelines for Assessing Compliance with Accessibility Requirements for Institutional Websites and Justification of Disproportionate Burden.

Compliance Status

The website of the National Institute of Research and Innovation is partially compliant with the requirements of Regulation No. 445.

Non-Compliance with Accessibility Requirements

The following accessibility issues have been identified:

  • Certain pages skip heading levels, and some headings are presented as bold text rather than being marked up as proper heading elements.
  • Not all images on the website are provided with alternative text descriptions.
  • The labels and names of certain website structural elements require more precise wording.
  • Colour contrast should be improved for smaller text elements and for headings displayed on coloured backgrounds.
  • Animated elements on the homepage cannot currently be paused or stopped by users.
